LIVERPOOL, KOMPAS.com - The Liverpool midfielder, Jay Spearing, assessing his team captain, Steven Gerrard, is worthy of leading the England team at Euro 2012 Ukraine-Poland.
Britain has not had a new captain since the English Football Federation (FA) John Terry fired from the post on Friday (02/03/2012).
"His career shows why he deserves (England captain). He's one of the players who helped either when playing or training. But, he's also one that will give you the spirit if he thinks you need it. That's something that I think needs a captain, "Spearing said.
"He came this way the club, scoring many great goals at the right time, and also for his country. I do not see any reason why he did not become captain," said Spearing.
In particular, Spearing also grateful to Gerrard. According to him, Gerrard is the one who helped him thrive in Liverpool.
"He helped me from the beginning I was relaxed here. If he considered there to correct me, he would tell me. He is my idol," he added.
